At the beginning of quarantine, I was feeling pretty awesome. In my mind, we were going to be in quarantine for 2 weeks and then be back to normal. Those 2 weeks would allow me to work from home and avoid the 2 hour daily commute, get stuff done around the house, spend some time with the kids and just recharge a little bit. We were supposed to have 9 weddings this year (would have been SO expensive but also SO MUCH FUN) so I figured, hey I’ll use these 2 weeks to relax and slow down our hectic life so that when the summer hits I’ll be ready! I did the typical – hey let’s make a million loaves of banana bread, let’s organize the playroom, let’s have zoom chats with all of my friends etc etc and it was AWESOME. Then 2 weeks turned into 3 weeks, 3 weeks turned into 4 weeks, 4 weeks turned into what felt like 82 weeks and it got hard. I missed my friends, I missed my family and I even missed those damn 2 hour commute. Now I was surrounded by my oh so loving kiddos and husband ALL THE TIME and I thought, this is what the Hunger Games must have felt like. I hit a slump and when my husband asked me what my favorite hobby to do was in order to distract myself, I didn’t have an answer. I liked to read? I liked to take baths? I liked to read in the bath? That’s when I realized I didn’t really have any personal goals or hobbies. I fell into a slump. I was just getting through the days but I wasn’t REALLY excited for each and every day which also made me feel SO guilty because there are so many people right now dealing with Covid and worse things than I am. So, I decided to take action! I decided that I needed to make some goals. But what kind of goals? Should I go with the old “Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” motto or should I set logical and achievable goals. I decided to go with the latter so that I could feel accomplished while stuck at home.
In order to do that, I went with the S.M.A.R.T method. This is a great goal setting acronym that will help you achieve your goals. I’ve attached a little PDF explaining what the S.M.A.R.T. method is, as well as a goals list for you to create. This will help you clearly identify your goals, set timelines and achieve success! I’ve also given an example as to one of my goals! I would like to hit 2,000 followers on Instagram. I know it doesn’t sound huge since many bloggers have millions of people following them, but I thought that it was a good S.M.A.R.T. goal to set for myself and then I could go from there. I feel good about this goal because I think it’s something that I can obtain, and it’ll also make me feel really happy to share my love of writing with the world. I also hope that I can somehow help people achieve joy one blog at a time.
So, here’s the challenge; you have until December 31st, 2020 to accomplish 3 goals using the tracker provided. Are you up for the challenge? If so let me know and I’ll be rooting you on! I might even check in to see how you’re doing!
